Incomplete work, very poor customer service, permit acquired one week after job was finished

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I contracted Aire Serv of Salem to have a new A/C unit and associated hardware installed. The work was performed on the day scheduled. However as the techs were ready to leave I asked if the lightning surge protector was installed. They said they forgot it and would grab it from the truck to install it. Not a big deal, it was a big job and things get missed. However, the bid also included the installation of an outlet and power switch at the furnace. It was only days later that I realized that this part of the job had not been done. I called them to relay this information and never received a return call. When I called again I got in touch with their secretary who tried to tell me that they could not do that part of the job because it is not up to code. Not sure why the secretary was telling me this anyway. I asked why that step was included in the bid if it could not be done to code. She said she did not know. I called back later to speak to a manager and he tried to give me some strange explanation about the switch not being able to be done to code and I asked him why it was included in the bid....no legitimate answer. I ended up emailing Evan the rep who came out to my home to bid the project. He was very helpful and understanding and we came to an agreement on a refund number that would reasonably reflect the portion of the job which was never finished. That day, on a hunch, I called the permit department for the city of Salem to see if a permit was ever pulled to do the work. No surprise, a permit was never pulled. I called Air Serv back to let them know about this. They doubted that this was real so I asked for a copy of the permit. I received a copy of the permit dated for the day I let them know one had never been issued. The permit was dated one week after the job had already been completed. So clearly they ran over to the permit depatment after I called their bluff and obtained a permit. Ten days after I spoke with Evan about the agreed upon refund it was still a no show. I emailed him about this, no answer. I waited an additional 12 days to email him again about the non existent refund, no email response again. I called his cell, no answer or voice mail. I called the next night and a very belligerent lady answered. I asked to speak with Evan she replied "this is no longer Evan's number can I help you with something. After I repeated that I was trying to get in contact with Evan she repeated "this is no longer Evan's number. can I help you with something. Clearly I am getting the cold shoulder and they are not willing to resolve this issue. In my opinion they were ready to call the job complete without installation of the bid upon switch and outlet and they were ready to walk away without having obtained a permit until I called them out on it one week later. In the city of Salem a permit runs about 80 bucks. If I wanted to get an inspector out to do a final inspection then i would have been left holding the bag on the cost of the permit. Consumers beware. this is a poorly run franchise with equally poor customer service. If you still choose to go with them then I would not give them any money upfront and I would certainly withhold final payment until you are absolutely sure that your job is 100% complete and done to your 100% satisfaction. I kind of feel sorry for them because I think they saw an easy mark in me but had no idea that I am a pit bull who latches on and does not let go until i feel a wrong has been righted. This post will be followed up with a BBB post and a call to Aire Serv corporate to let them know the crap one of their franchises is up to.

Horrible!

Aire Serv In Temple TX. They made lots of promises they never intended to keep, if their lips were moving it was a lie. Second, the new unit was installed in June this year, it is October and it is 28 outside and we have NO heat. Accident or wanting to add another service call to a already expensive bill. Jason came to my house looked at furnace said. Control board and fan are dirty needs replacing, never tested anything. Yesterday ac came on blew out some air. Jusy not fast. Firnave worked all winter mo problem. Jason sd ot needed replacing $1100. No thanks. Most it could of needef was frezon or a condensor. Short fix was mother board and fan quoted at $375 to 400. Said they don't clean units. They only replace them. Why didn't they say that on the phone. Eas going yo pau for service call he slidd my card, regised to give me a receipt then wanted to sign a second time on a electronic pad that said authorization only. When I adk what I was authorizating he took the board and ran out the door. At that point I believed he was a scammer. Callwd the bank immediately to cancel my card. I would not do business with them. Whatever he did to my Furnace it no longer come on. Unsatisfied and now without a furnace. Why take advantage of the elderly.

Aire Serv of Southwest Connecticut: A nest of professional liars, led by owner head liar! Steer clear of them as they almost got me to replace my Heating & Air condition gas furnace. Thankfully there are honest HVAC contractors out there and after having hired two more Heating & Air conditioning contractors they both confirmed that the furnace Did Not need to be replaced. The system is still working in perfect condition. thanks to honest people out there weeding liars.

I am sorry you had a negative experience with our company. sometimes a technician will look at a system and decide it is past its useful life.

this is a judgment call that sometimes is not correct and I am sorry that somebody recommended replacement when in fact the system was operating perfectly. it is never our intention to mislead anybody into replacing their system when it should not be replaced.

I wish you would have contacted me the owner Brian Powell to discuss this so I can make sure that the technician involved would not make recommendations that were not necessary. our number is 203-736-**** and my name is Brian Powell and I am available most days

On April 17, 2017 Aire Serve, contracted by Home Depot, installed a new 40 Gallon Rheem Gas Hot Water Heater at our home. When I was able to inspect their work, I found the ground wire for the water heater was not reconnected.

Home Depot was notified and they assured us someone would be out to reconnect it, but there was no response. I had the ground wire reconnected by a qualified person.

On February 25, 2019 our water was only warm. I called our Natural Gas Provider and they sent someone to check the pilot light. He found a long crack in a device that distributes the gas to the pilot light.

the gas company employee said the crack was caused by over-tightening the threaded fitting into the cast aluminum body of the distribution device (there was a gas leak) by the person who installed the water heater. When I called Aire Serv to complain, they only wanted to argue and blame the damage on the gas company for "messing" with things. I told them I would get someone else to fix the problem and that our business was finished.

Note: my wife and I are senior, senior citizens. PS: If the water heater had been in or under our house, instead of in an aqua hut outside, it could have led to a disaster.

Price gouging on Furnace Installation

Updated by user Dec 27, 2018

A month has now gone by (December 27th) and I have yet to hear from the company. Nothing, not one word.

Original review Nov 27, 2018
On October 24th, Aire Serv installed a new furnace for our condo. They gave us a quote a week earlier and we were told that there is only one replacement available for the confined space that the current unit resides in and that it would cost $8,000. We were in the process of living MI for the winter and did not have time to get additional quotes. We paid 50% upfront on our credit card and paid the remaining balance upon completion. We then learned that our next door neighbor had their furnace fail on them as well (within a week of ours failing and they have the identical setup). They had time and got quotes from 3 companies. One was for $4,000; one was for $4,900 and one from AireServ for $8,000. They shared that information with me. I was appalled and got in touch with Honey Becker from the company. We talked on the phone once and she indicated that she was eager to "resolve things" and would be back in touch with me the next day. This was November 14th. On the 15th, I got a call from another individual, but the call went to voice mail. This person said that he wanted to explain their "pricing model" to me. I tried calling him back, but he was not in. On November 16th, I sent an email back to Honey Baker with a proposed resolution. That proposal was for us to pay $500 more that the second highest bid, which was $4,900. That would mean a refund of $2,600. I have not heard back from them regarding this proposed resolution. I filled a dispute with my credit card company affectively paying them the $4,000, but disputing the last $4,000 believing that would make them eager to talk with me. To date, have not heard from them. Since them, I have looked at our compiled laws of Michigan (Chapter 445.903) and have found that "Charging a consumer a price that is grossly in excess of the price at which similar property or services are sold" is unlawful. Thus, the basis for this complaint. At this time, I have yet to hear anything from the company.

We bought a plan from Aire Serv after they were recommended by our home warranty co. We had a maintenance visit, one of 2 we paid for.

Yesterday Freon leaked causing us to need a repair.

I called them and was told we would have service yesterday, we did not. This morning, got an apology call and were told the co we had contracted with were out of business.

Apparently, they are franchised but do not honor their brand. I did pay 90 to pay for a service call to be told this particular franchise does not participate with our home warranty also will not honor the plan we paid for less than 6 months ago.

Payments

Will not pay the Bills they have, so don't pay the one they give you. As a small local Graphics Co. I have given them a price that beats most and yet still want pay. Did the norm. Starting telling us all that was wrong looking for something free. We wrapped a box truck a van and a truck for under 3 grand. O did I mention they dropped them off on a sunday and wanted them back on Monday....lol I take pride in my work even when it has issues. I handle a lot of Desoto work and have good feedback. See the work on my Hero Graphics FB page. If needed before I turn them over and have them served I will be more then happy to post conversations between me and two others saying how much they love it. Had one small issue to fix that I have ask many times for the van, but yet have been given.....so they must be ok with it......

Should not have to call service to connect a recently installed system. Then for my maintenance check appointment was made on Fri for following Mon and no one showed up. Do not use Aire Serv service, NOT RELIABLE! !

Tech Did Not Show

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had Aire Serve of Lake Cumberkand install a very expensive heat pump/air conditioning system in my home on Lake Cumberland. The system is run for a total of about 45 dsys per year over the last five years. It began leaking water in the basement floor in May 2018. Called Aire Serve of Lake Cumberland to check it out. They said they could not schedule me for an appointment the week I called but gave me an appointment for the next week onTuesday, May 29th. The technician was supposed to arrive between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. As of 4:00 pm he has not arrived. At 1:30 I contacted Aire Serve and was informed the tech would not arrive for several more hours. I took off a day from work to get this done. Had I known they would not show I could have worked. I will be finding me another HVAC company to service my system in the future.

New and abused

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We bought a new trane unit two years ago through them. We have their silver plan for servicing which we purchased after the initial warranty services.

It started not cooling as well last summer;its second summer. We told them that and were just blown off during its service. This year during its summer service we got more persistent with them and they sent out a specialist . Come to find out the txv needed replacing.

I put a complaint on Tranes web page because aire serve made it sound like they were doing me a favor by discounting labor and stating cost of part. Even though it was warranteed.

I was told by Trane that the txv were a replace on fail item, which is like a factory recall and its up to the individual contractor rather they will charge labor or not. Funny if you buy a car and theres a recall they replace for free.

Tried selling me on a new furnace

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After a tech showed up for an emergency call 6 hours later, the tech told me the bad news(fractured heat enchanger, weak capacitor, and bad blower motor). Me not knowing anything about HVAC services and having a pregnant wife that could deliver anytime decided that the best solution would be to take the tech advise and get a new furnace. The next morning I had a family friend with 40 years of experience come look for a second opinion. He replaced the capictor and the furnace looks like new again. Also told me there were no fractures in the heat exchanger and the blower motor worked perfectly. Seems to me that instead of putting in a little extra work the techs just prefer to make it sound like you need a new furnace

These people only want to sell you a furnace or A/C. I know multiple people who have called them for service and no matter what, it always seems to lead toward needing a replacement furnace or A/C. Stay away from Air Serve in North Branch.

I agree. Watch out when you call them for "service".

Nothing but up selling and always want to replace your equipment, at an outrageously premium price, even if a couple hundred bucks would be all that's needed to get your system back to full function. Something is unethical with Air Serve in North Branch.

I agree. Here is our review.

Please..please people if you are told by this company that your furnace and or AC needs to be replaced get a second opinion or better yet call someone else in the first place. Don't just go blindly with what they tell you!! We have been without heat this week having been told that we had an expensive fix and it would be better for us to replace. We had them come back with an estimate of $13,000 from their "Home Comfort Designers." Lucky for us that we know people, so we called around.

This is more than double the cost of other places. So one of the other HVAC companies came out to take a look. Was here for 5 minutes and had our furnace running without adding any additional parts. And all of the components air serve claimed were needing replacement were checked and were fine! The tech we had fix it showed my husband all of the components.

Other HVAC companies are well aware of their sales tactics and upcharges. Oh sure, they are so nice and personable and I am sure you are so pleased with your new install like some of these reviews say. I have to wonder how many didn't need to be replaced in the first place.

We just saved ourselves a bunch of money. They are salesmen out to make their commission.
